Join our Virtual Tuscan Cooking Class

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Italian lockdown, we had to suspend our cooking classes for the moment. Contact us for future dates later in the year.

As we are missing people joining us in the kitchen and we’re missing sharing food and recipes, we launched a Udemy virtual Tuscan cooking course!
With this course you will join me in my kitchen, attending step-by-step cooking demonstrations to show you exactly how to prepare each recipe.
We’re going to use simple, affordable ingredients. Stock up your pantry and be ready to start cooking like an Italian and Tuscan home cook. You’ll learn recipes to make antipasti (appetisers, like focaccia, chicken liver paté and sausage crostoni), primi (fresh pasta from scratch like tagliatelle and ravioli, risotto, gnocchi, and all the dressings for your pasta), secondi (traditional meat and fish dishes), contorni (seasonal side dishes from stewed artichokes to grilled eggplants) and dolci (my famous olive oil cake, but also crostate, almond biscotti and tiramisù). There will be also a chapter on preserves, so that you’ll be able to replicate my spicy tomato jam for a cheese platter, my limoncello or the summer tomato sauce.

Join us for a three-hour hands-on fresh pasta cooking class. We will explore the wonderful world of traditional fresh pasta. We will learn together how to make three different types of fresh pasta and their seasonal dressings. We will make pici, the typical thick, homemade spaghetti of Val d’Orcia, in the south part of Tuscany, made just with flour and water. We will make the typical egg fresh pasta, and we’ll decide together if we’ll have tagliatelle, tagliolini, ravioli or other kinds of stuffed pasta. Then we’ll make gnocchi from scratch, using local potatoes.

We will learn which is the best flour to use to make pasta, how to prepare it in advance and how to store it, how to stuff the pasta to make tortelli, ravioli or cappellacci. We will talk about the best dressing for every shape of pasta and, if in season, I’ll share with you also my favourite tomato sauce.

After the class, we’ll sit at the table and we’ll open our meal with a cheese and charcuterie board before enjoying all the pasta made together in the morning. We’ll close the meal with a fresh dessert.

Since we are in the countryside, you’ll need a car – or a driver – to fully enjoy the class

How does it work?

The cooking classes are held in our Studio, located in a traditional country house in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, in between Siena and Florence.

You’ll meet my family, our dogs Noa and Teo and our cats Wolfi and Pelù, and if the weather is good you’ll get the chance to eat outside in our garden underneath the olive trees.

We’ll meet at 9.00am directly at my studio. We’ll have a three-hour hands-on cooking class, cooking  three pasta recipes from scratch, with three different sauces. There will be a cheese and charcuterie board as an appetiser and a quick dessert to close the meal with a sweet note. Then we’ll sit down together to enjoy our meal and talk, like in a family.  

  • You’ll join a group of enthusiast food lovers. You’ll meet strangers from breakfast and by lunchtime you’ll have new friends. We will still keep this a small party, though – not more than a total of 6 people will attend the class – as we like to have everyone involved in the cooking part.
  • If you are part of a bigger group, contact us to verify the availability for a class.
  • A private driver can be arranged on request for pick-up and drop-off (price not included).
  • A photographer can be hired to take photos of your class, giving you precious memories of the experience. (please ask for a quote if you are interested in any of the options)

If you’re looking for a two-day or three-day class, I’ll tailor the experience to suit your needs and expectations. You’ll spend some days with us in between hands on cooking classes, markets tours and farm tours. We’ll also suggest you a nearby agriturismo where you can stay. We’ll have more time to delve into the Tuscan cuisine and I’ll help you create a Tuscan cooking repertoire. We’ll have lots of fun! Learn more about it!

Where is Juls' Kitchen?

The Juls’ Kitchen Studio is located in the countryside near Colle Val d’Elsa, in a small hamlet. We are one hour from Florence and about 30 minutes from Siena. Since our studio is located in the countryside, you’ll need a car – or a driver – to fully enjoy the class.

Many of the best tourist destinations in Tuscany such as San Gimignano, Montalcino, Volterra, Pienza, Lucca, Montepulciano and Greve in Chianti are very close to us. We always give our guests the very best directions so they can locate us easily. We’re on Google Maps, too.
