Choose this experience if you love cheese and are curious to visit a local family run farm.
In the morning we’ll have a three-hour hands-on cooking class and we will cook a whole menu, from appetizer to dessert, using only the freshest seasonal ingredients. You will discover the secrets of the local peasant country cooking.
After the cooking class we will visit a local sheep farm, Podere Paugnano, an organic family run farm where we will get to meet sheep, piglets and shepherd dogs, we’ll learn how to make pecorino cheese, discovering the option of traditional vegetarian rennet, and we’ll have a taste of their pecorino cheeses, sitting on a patio overlooking the town of Radicondoli.
The farm is located in a wilder part of Tuscany, off the beaten track, you’ll fall in love with the landscape, the farm and the cheese, of course!

Antipasto (Starter): Cheese platter with onion jam, chicken liver crostini, chickpea cake or seasonal bruschetta
First Course: Fresh hand-made pasta like tagliatelle, tortelli or pici, pillowy potato gnocchi or a seasonal soup.
Main Course: Roasted pork loin (Arista alla Fiorentina), roasted turkey breast stuffed with prosciutto and cheese, beef meatballs.
Side dish: Roasted seasonal vegetables, vegetable stews, fresh salads and rich flans.
Dessert: Almond biscotti, fruit pound cake, zuppa inglese, chestnut cake or ricotta with honey.

These are just a few options, menus will vary according to your preferences and to the season. If you opt for the market class, we’ll choose the menu together during the morning shopping.

 Why a cooking class with me?

You have the opportunity to learn from a born and bred Tuscan and visit my family home in the rolling Sienese countryside. I’ve been writing professionally about Tuscany for 8 years, teaching classes for more than 5 years and cooking for all my life, standing on a stool in the kitchen next to my grandma and mum. My partner and better half Tommaso has also joined Jul’s Kitchen so you can be sure the technical side of the business is taken care of.
We like to offer you authentic edible experiences in Tuscany. Choosing a class with us means to escape for a day in the countryside, far from the charming buzz of Florence and Siena. Slow down and be ready to live a day as a local: hearty homemade food is included!
We will shop at the local market and at my artisan butcher who knows me by name, we will talk with producers, we will plan the menu together according to the season. Our cooking classes are hands-on, as I believe that we learn by doing – and after all it is fun to knead your pasta dough, isn’t it?
We strongly believe in a creative network of producers and friends: during our classes you’ll have the chance to discover and taste local products such as Tuscan pecorino cheese, extra virgin olive oil, wine, cinta senese pork charcuterie, chianina cow meat and much more, according to the season.
Every meal will be an excuse to travel through Tuscany thanks to local recipes, memories and stories.

 

How does it work?

The cooking classes are held in our Studio, located in a traditional country house in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, between Siena and Florence.
You’ll meet my family, my dog Noa and my cat Wolfi, and if the weather is good you’ll get the chance to eat outside in our garden underneath the olive trees.
I’m also available to come to your rented villa or apartment and teach a class there. I’m not scared by smallish kitchens, as all the recipes we’ll learn together will be easily replicable and adaptable to the ingredients you’ll find once back home. (please ask for a quote if you are interested)
A private driver can be arranged on request for pick-up and drop-off (price not included). A photographer can be hired to take photos of your class, giving you precious memories of the experience. (please ask for a quote if you are interested in any of the options)
Vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options are always available on request.

Where is Juls’ Kitchen?

Juls’ Kitchen is located in the countryside near Colle Val d’Elsa, one hour from Florence and 30 minutes from Siena. Near many of the nicest location in Tuscany, such as San Gimignano and Montalcino, Volterra, Pienza, Lucca, Montepulciano, Greve in Chianti.
